Fisher & Paykel 90cm Classic Freestanding Cooker – Gas Burner Control Knob

Genuine Fisher & Paykel gas burner control knob for the OR90 Classic 90cm freestanding cooker. Black body with a brushed stainless top and chrome collar, marked OFF on the face and LO – HI around the skirt with a tapering flame-height wedge. Supplied as one knob. A five-burner cooktop uses five of these.

1. Check your build code. Fisher & Paykel changed this knob mid-production. Build codes ending -A (81265-A, 81678-A, 81884-A) use 578408. Build codes ending -B (81678-B, 81884-B) use 577633. The build code is on the rating plate, usually behind the bottom drawer or on the door frame. If you are not certain, email us the model number and build code and we will confirm it before we ship.

2. This is the BURNER knob, not the oven dial. These cookers use three near-identical looking knobs: the gas burner knob (this one, marked LO–HI), the oven thermostat dial (578409, marked with temperatures) and the oven function selector (578410, marked with icons). They are different parts. Check the markings on your old knob against the photo.

3. Not for induction models. The OR90SCI1X1 is a four-zone induction cooker with no gas burners at all – it uses induction dials 578411 and 578447 instead. This knob will not suit it.

Knob spins without turning the burner onThe D-shaped socket inside the knob has stripped. The valve is usually fine – it is the knob that has failed.

Fitting Notes
Turn the gas off firstIsolate the appliance before you start.
Pull the knob straight offThese are a push fit on a D-shaped spindle. There is no grub screw.
Do not lever it sidewaysPulling at an angle can bend the gas valve spindle or disturb the valve body. That turns a two-minute knob swap into a gas fitter’s job.
Line up the DThe knob only goes on one way. Set the spindle to the OFF position, line the flat of the D up with the knob, and push it straight on.
Check it operates cleanlyAfter fitting, confirm the knob turns to LO and HI and returns positively to OFF before you use the burner.
Gas work is licensed workIf the valve itself is damaged or the knob will not seat, stop and call a licensed gas fitter. Do not force it.
