Toro / Lawn-Boy Lawn Mower Front Self-Propel Drive Belt – Recycler & Personal Pace
Replacement front transmission drive belt for Toro and Lawn-Boy self-propelled walk-behind mowers. This is the belt that runs from the engine crankshaft pulley to the front transmission and drives the mower forward – it is what makes Personal Pace and PoweReverse self-drive work. A 3L profile V-belt, 3/8 inch wide by 32-1/2 inch long. Supplied as one belt.
Please check before ordering: This is the FRONT drive belt only. All-Wheel-Drive machines such as the 20353, 20355, 20357, 20964 and 20965 also run a separate rear belt (Toro 115-4669 or 91-2258 depending on model) – two different belts, and this part will not replace the rear one. If your self-drive has failed, please confirm which belt is worn before ordering. Toro also uses several serial-number ranges per model, so send us your model number AND serial number if you are at all unsure and we will check it for you free of charge.

Symptoms This Part Fixes
| Self-drive slips or feels weak | The mower still cuts fine but you end up pushing it. This is the most common symptom of a worn or glazed drive belt. |
| Mower will not pull itself at all | The belt has snapped, jumped its pulley, or stretched beyond the tensioner’s range of adjustment. |
| Self-drive works on the flat but gives up on slopes | Classic partial slip under load – the belt no longer grips in the pulley V when the machine is working hard. |
| Squealing or chirping when you squeeze the drive bail | The belt is slipping on engagement. |
| Belt sides look shiny, glazed or burnt | The rubber has hardened and lost grip. Often caused by a slipping clutch or a seized pulley. |
| Smell of burning rubber while mowing | The belt is slipping badly and overheating. |
| Cracked, frayed, chunked or shredded belt | Age, heat, UV and packed grass. Visible on inspection once the belt cover is off. |

Fitting Notes
| Access | The belt cover and belt guide have to come off – both are held by screws. A socket set and a screwdriver are all that is needed; no special tools. |
| Safety first | Disconnect the spark plug lead before working anywhere near the deck or blade. |
| While you are in there | Clear packed grass out of the belt housing and check that every pulley spins freely. A seized or stiff pulley will chew through a new belt in short order. |
| Check the serial number | Toro runs several serial-number ranges per model. The 20353 alone has seven. 71-9450 held across every range we checked for the models listed above, but neighbouring models did change belt – so match on model AND serial. |
