LG Washing Machine Heating Element 2000W

This is a replacement heating element for LG front load washing machines, rated 2000 watts. It sits in the sump under the drum, immersed in the wash water, and heats the water to the temperature the selected programme calls for. It is normally supplied with its rubber sealing gasket and clamping stud. It is the usual cause when a machine will only ever wash cold.

When To Replace

Replace the element when the machine only ever washes cold no matter what temperature is selected, when a hot cycle takes far longer than it should or the machine stops part way through, when the machine trips the safety switch as soon as heating starts, or when the element reads open circuit or shows continuity to earth on a meter. An element caked in scale will also fail early, so check the water hardness if this is the second one.

Fitting

This part must be fitted by a qualified appliance technician or electrician. Isolate the machine at the power point and turn off the water at the tap before starting. Remove the rear or front panel to reach the sump, photograph the wiring including the earth and the thermistor if it passes through the element, then loosen the centre nut and ease the element out. Fit the new element with a new gasket, tighten the centre nut just enough to seat the seal evenly, reconnect the wiring, then run a hot cycle and check for leaks and carry out an insulation resistance and earth continuity test.

Notes

Do not overtighten the clamping nut. It expands the rubber gasket to seal the element in the tub, and overtightening distorts the gasket and causes a slow leak that only shows up on a hot wash.
