Omega Smeg Oven Timer 90 Minutes

This is a replacement mechanical countdown timer for Omega and Smeg ovens and freestanding stoves. It is the clockwork minute minder on the fascia, with a range of up to 100 minutes. You wind it up, it counts down and rings a bell when the time is up. On most of these ovens it is a reminder only and does not switch the oven off, but on some models it is wired into the oven circuit.

When To Replace

Replace the timer when it will not wind, when it winds but does not count down, when it runs fast or slow so the timing is useless, when the bell no longer rings at the end, when the knob spins freely without engaging, or when the shaft has snapped. On models where the timer is wired into the oven circuit, a failed timer can also stop the oven heating at all.

Fitting

This part must be fitted by a qualified appliance technician. Isolate the oven at the circuit breaker before starting. Pull the timer knob off the shaft, remove the fascia or the control panel to reach the back of the timer, and photograph any wiring before disconnecting it. Release the mounting clips or screws, withdraw the old timer, fit the new one squarely so the shaft is centred in the fascia hole, reconnect any wiring in the same order, refit the panel and push the knob back on.

Notes

Check whether your oven has a timer that is simply a bell, or one that is wired in and controls the oven circuit. They look similar from the front but they are not interchangeable, and fitting the wrong type will either leave the oven dead or bypass a control you expected to have.
