Technika Emilia Glem Gas Oven Thermostat Dual Capillary

This is a replacement oven thermostat with a dual capillary for Technika, Emilia and Glem Gas ovens and freestanding stoves. The two capillary sensors sit in the oven cavity. One controls the temperature by cycling the burner or element to hold the setting on the dial, and the second acts as the safety limit that shuts the oven down if the cavity overheats.

When To Replace

Replace the thermostat when the oven runs far hotter or cooler than the dial setting, when it will not heat at all although the ignition or element circuit is sound, when it will not switch off and keeps climbing, when the dial turns with no effect, or when a capillary has been kinked, crushed or broken and has lost its charge. Check the oven with a separate thermometer before condemning it, as a drifting oven can also be a worn door seal.

Fitting

This part must be fitted by a qualified appliance technician, and on a gas oven by a licensed gas fitter. Isolate the appliance at the circuit breaker and shut off the gas before starting. Remove the control panel, photograph the wiring and the routing of both capillaries, then release the capillary clips inside the cavity and withdraw the sensors. Fit the new thermostat, route both capillaries exactly as the originals ran and clip them to the same points, reconnect the wiring, then leak test if gas and check the oven holds temperature against a thermometer.

Notes

The position of the capillary sensors matters as much as the thermostat. If they are not clipped in the same places as the originals, the oven will read the wrong temperature even with a brand new thermostat fitted.
